The district is known as militant stronghold. The contract was an enforcement of the Islamic Sharia law by a leading outlawed pro-Taliban group in the region headed by Sufi Mohammad. However, Pak President Asif Ali Zardari approved the agreement under which all un-Islamic provisions in the existing legal system will be outlawed. On the other hand, Pakistan’s provincial administration has defended the decision. They said it was not made under pressure from extremist forces and is not unconstitutional.
