Kwame Kilpatrick former Mayor of Detroit was sent to jail for four months for his part in a sex-and-text scandal calling him “arrogant and defiant” and the judge chastised the disgraced ex-mayor for conceit and ignore for the rule of law. The penalty was part of an appeal agreement worked out previous month. Wayne county circuit judge David Groner’s ruling was the ending to the scandal that shattered Kilpatrick’s reign at City Hall and threw local government into confusion for months. He lined that Kilpatrick not be given a chance for early free. The judge said:
“At a time when this city needed transparency, accountability and responsibility, you exhibited hubris and privilege at the expense of the city.” He also noticed that “When someone gets 120 days in jail, they should get 120 days in jail.”
Kilpatrick refused to talk in court, but his legal representatives advised the judge to look at his full career, not just the offenses that threw local government into disarray for months. Democrat Kilpatrick admitted lying while testifying previous year in a civil court case filed by ex-police officers who accused him of unlawfully relegating or firing them. He and chief of staff Beatty both were accused of having an affair and denied it, but text messages got by a lawyer lately which wait Detroit Free Press, that obviously contradicted them. They used their city pagers to arrange assignations and share sexually explicit requests.
