Lankan forces took the control of Tamil Capital

ltteAt last, the Sri Lankan forces have seized the Tamil Tigers’ de facto capital of Kilinochchi, part of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Some sources from President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s office said that Sri Lankan troops entered Kilinochchi from different two locations and after a fierce confrontation with the tigers, the Lankan defense force took the control of the town. Udaya Nanayakkara, one of the military spokesmen, said “Presently the 57 division troops and one battalion of the Sri Lankan army have entered Kilinochchi town.”

On 1, January, 2009 Lankan army captured Iranamadu junction which was south of the LTTE’s self-proclaimed capital of Kilinochchi and Paranthan town to the north. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s forces have been closing in Kilinochchi since September 2008. Through out the last month, it has been assaulting Tiger defenses surrounding the town.In the meantime in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka just after President Rajapakse’s statement of the fall of Kilinochchi, a suspected suicide bomber attacked the headquarters of the Lankan air force killing no less than two persons and injuring more than thirty others. But the victory over the Tiger has made the more inspiration in Lankan forces.
